Editorial: The future of the ‘Rathdrum Sun’

The future of the Rathdrum Sun is not facebook. When I had first started this venture in January, it seemed like the logical jumping off point. I had though that at this point, everybody had a facebook page and was on it all the time and it would be a simple thing to get the news important to people out there.  I guess that just goes o show the naivety of my generation having technology such as computers and cell phones, though primitive as they where for as long as I can remember, and the Internet connecting people to the farthest reaches of the globe for over half my life. It’s easy to take for granted just how people are when I myself pretty much forgotten how to remember phone numbers since I carried a device in my pocket that could dial any amount of numbers with just a few clicks.

Facebook is not the right venue in and of it’s self either. For the better part of  a year and a half now it has been known that facebook actively hid trending topics if they either where about a Right-Wing figure or came from a Right-Wing source causing facebook to ultimately have to automate the trending services rather than let the people silicone valley with it’s deep leftist bias  oversee it. Facebook also likes to ban people they don’t agree with as well. Not Sharia recruitments because that would be racists (even though Muslim is a region and not a race) but rather conservatives that make jokes at the expense of the far left’s bad argument, or when libertarians like me make jokes about taxation being theft.

My vision is quite unique. A newspaper that is delivered entirely on line  is not something that has been tried and tested. While it’s true more and more of what is referred to as the ‘legacy media’ has focused more on an on line presence there hasn’t been one to my knowledge that was on line only. with this risky format comes a risky business model too. I hope to be able to crowd source my venture through the official Rathdrum Sun Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/RathdrumSun. With your support I want to expand my news organization to be able to cover even Blanchard and Spirit Lake. I cannot do this alone though, and I encourage all who can afford to make a monthly donation to do so in order to keep the newspaper free to the larger public. I also intend once established to also partner with the Rathdrum Chamber of Commerce, offer prizes for Lakeland Student of the month, and when I really get going, my dream is to fund the drama club to write and record their own audio plays such as the Sherlock Homes serials of a time long before me.

With your help we can make journalism ethical again; something it’s sorely needing in this day and age, and help unite both sides Rathdrum’s tracks and get people connected to their community has a whole.
