St. Paddy’s day is quickly approaching and everyone is looking forward to sitting down with friends and family to maybe have some traditional Irish food and maybe put back a few drinks as well. Well, did you know all the places that are hosting events over the course of the weekend? There are quite a few varying in family friendless so here is a cross section of all the things you can do Friday and Saturday just in the Rathdrum area.

Along side the now traditional green beers there will also be free prizes in the form of give-aways along with live bag pipe music at 3pm and 6 pm.
Across the street at at Kelsey’s they will be celebrating with drinks specials, green beers, and the drink they are most well known for, the Irish Car Bomb along with live music from Riverboat Dave, a local musician to the CDA area that plays in his own words “Everything from Beatles to Blues, mixed with his folk rock and jazzy blues originals.” Dave has played just all over the States including the Pasadena Ice house, Hollywood’s Whiskey to Manhattan night clubs, and since settling in Coeur d’alene, The Bloomsday Marathon and plays mainly at The Moose Lounge and the CDA Wine Cellar and preformed at the 103.1 KCDA Spotlight show.
CJ’s bar and grill will be doubling on party duty this weekend as they will be having a pot luck with free cornbeef and cabbage provided by the bar. People are welcome to bring whatever they like to the event or just graze on what the people bring, either way it’s free to the public. Along with the usual green beers there are also specials on Jameson and other Irish whiskey shots, along with a martini called ‘Lucky Leprechaun.’ There will be another potluck the next day, the 18th that 7th anniversary of CJ’s bar and grill and the welcome home party for a returning bar tender of 5 years, Kelly. This potluck is also free and starts at 4pm with live music from ‘The Black Jack Band’ starting at 8 pm.
The Rathdrum Library will be having fun actives for the kids after normal library hours from 5 to 7 for kids 12-18. It’s apart of the the Library’s ‘Teen Tech Month’ which happens every year in March but a St. Paddy’s day party will be a first for Rathdrum’s own, having been tried first last year at Hayden’s library. A green screen will be set up and kids are invited to get their picture taken and get it photoshoped with it to make it look like they are doing any number of things such as sky diving into various locations, hanging off a cliff or taking a selfie in front of a charging bear. Refreshment will also be served as well but it will be green themed and not specifically Irish themed. This event is sponsored by the Idaho Commission for Libraries and sweetened the pot with a book giveaway-Bring a friend and get a free book, something from the teen fiction genre.
On Sunday in lent under church cannon law Catholics are lifted from Lent obligation of Lent and will be the day of celebration for both St. Patrick and St. Jospeh with an Italian dinner at St. Stanislaus parish hall on McCarthney st. This is an annual fundraiser put on by St. Joan of Arc catholic parish of CDA and is open to the public. Entertainment will be provided by Rathdrum native and parishioner Daniel Connelly with bagpipes played play by the Parish Priest, Fr. Gordon and performances from other parishioners. Spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread, salad and a variety of deserts will be on the menu and to get in it will be 7 dollars at the door for adults, 5 dollars for children 5 and older with kinds under 5 eating free with donations welcome. All proceeds go to catholic missions all over the world. St. Joan of Arc is one of the fasted growing parishes in Idaho and has already purchased and is planning a new and larger church for worship on Post falls.
Please be party responsibly and be safe out there. Police presence is usually increased for the holiday and it would be hard to imagine this year being any different. Also don’t forget to show up in green wherever you go or risk the consequences whatever they may be!
